Dar & Moreno, Creed Brothers advance in Dusty Rhodes Classic
The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic is back, with 14 teams competing to win the 2026 edition of the tournament. You can see the full bracket here. It began on this week’s episode of NXT TV on The CW with a pair of matchups. They got the tournament underway with Noam Dar & Romeo Moreno vs. Los Americanos putting on an absolute tone setter of a back-and-forth battle that had the Performance Center faithful chanting “THIS IS AWESOME!” Rayo & Bravo came in as one of the teams you would think will go deep into this tourney, which made every near fall in Dar & Moreno’s favor hit so much harder. And it hit really hard when they actually got the job done. Dar & Moreno will take on the winner of Fraxiom vs. Darkstate in the quarterfinals. New top contender crowned, Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic returns on NXT
When NXT wasn’t being hilariously sad or forcing you to trip balls this evening, there were some noteworthy news items from the latest two hour episode on the CW. First, the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic will be returning, and the action kicks off next week: The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic is BACK!!! 🙌 WOW!! pic.twitter.com/bKcZLTBgPc — WWE (@WWE) September 16, 2026 NXT General Manager Robert Stone said he was looking to enhance the tag team division in the promotion, and the next step in that process will be to revive the Dusty Classic. It will feature 14 teams from NXT, Evolve, AAA, Raw, and SmackDown. Brackets will be announced later this week, and the matches begin next week. Right on. The sad hilarity of NXT on display
I haven’t been a big fan of pretty much anything NXT has done over the past year or so. When guys like Bron Breakker, Trick Williams, and Oba Femi took off for the main roster, it left a gaping hole in the talent pool that I’m struggling to see anyone fill. It’s gotten so bad, Grayson Waller was sent back down to cut promos about how the men’s division is getting lapped by the women’s division, and then he won the title, more or less proving himself correct. A big part of the problem is they’ve been doing things like this Myles Borne/Tavion Heights story. They were a team, split up, got back together, won titles, and then split up again right after they lost said titles. Borne was the one who turned on Heights, back at Heatwave on Aug. 30. He spent the next couple weeks making like he was truly sorry, leading up to his big in-ring apology on NXT television this week: "I'm sorry" 🙏 A very conflicted conversation between Tavion Heights and Myles Borne! pic.twitter.com/odArDnmHqY — WWE
