Solo Sikoa’s kidnapping got even dumber
Look, there’s a level of silly you simply have to accept when it comes to professional wrestling in 2026. We’ve simply gone too far down the rabbit hole after so many years of Vince McMahon at the helm of WWE for so long. It’s not all on him, of course, but that hardly matters. The point is this entire thing gets pretty dumb. Like, impossibly dumb. Such is the case when they run angles like they did on Monday Night Raw this week, where Solo Sikoa was kidnapped by the gang known as 946. They snagged him right before he could make his entrance for a scheduled Money in the Bank qualifying match. How did WWE play this? General Manager Adam Pearce simply replaced Sikoa with Penta — who went on to win the match to great fanfare — and moved on with his life. What’s next for Penta in WWE after world title loss
We’ve heard nothing but good things about Penta in the wake of his loss to Roman Reigns in their world heavyweight championship match in the main event of Monday Night Raw in Mexico City last week. Reigns was fantastic in the match — with William Regal even suggesting folks study his tape from it to learn how to be better at that level — and Penta came away from it looking like a legitimate top level star in WWE. I’m not sure that was the case before it. Roman Reigns’ Money in the Bank opponent is official
It was pretty clear from the post-show angle that Geno shared with us early this morning (Sept. 15). Roman Reigns breaks Mexico’s heart, defeats Penta to retain world title
When it was announced WWE would not only head for Mexico City but hold multiple episodes of television there, AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio and Raw General Manager Adam Pearce agreed upon an idea — hold a tournament to find the best luchador to challenge Roman Reigns for his world heavyweight championship in the main event of a packed weekend on Monday Night Raw. Penta won that tournament, and was given all the pomp and pageantry you would expect when he arrived to try to finish the job in front of a partisan crowd who treated him like a God. Reigns, then, was public enemy number one, walking into the belly of the beast with an entire arena roaring its disapproval. This had a big fight feel, a rarity for a regular episode of Raw in the fall with just a month of build up. And they delivered with a big fight match, a back-and-forth war. The rumor covers something we here on the wrestle web have been discussing for months: WWE Grand Slam champion Bayley. The 37-year-old star’s current WWE contract expires at the end of this year, and after word of that got out she and bestie Mercedes Moné had fun teasing Bayley’s possible jump to AEW for a few weeks. WWE SmackDown recap & reactions (July 14, 2026): Spicing Things Up
WWE is back with the go home SmackDown prior to Saturday Night’s Main Event but it almost feels silly to say that because this upcoming SNME felt pretty unimportant going into this show. Let’s see if they could change our mind on that. Find all the results from that show at Claire’s wonderful live blog here. Stipulation Creative certainly did try to spice up SNME by adding a stipulation to the big Cody Rhodes/CM Punk vs. Sami Zayn/Gunther tag match set for tomorrow. That stip being if Sami & Gunther win, they get added to the WWE title match at SummeSlam. Certainly not insignificant. Acting GM Adam Pearce interrupted a ranting Gunther to inform him of this. First he let the Career Killer know that the reason he’s not fired after his unprovoked attack on GM Nick Aldis last week is because Aldis himself pleaded with management to keep tomorrow’s match intact. GUNTHER is rewarded with a potential SummerSlam main event after attacking Nick Aldis
One week after GUNTHER destroyed SmackDown GM Nick Aldis, the Ring General kicked off tonight’s (July 17) episode to address his actions. As you might expect, GUNTHER blamed Aldis for everything that happened, all because the GM prevented him from winning the WWE championship over the last few months. Acting GM Adam Pearce interrupted at that point to read him the riot act and say GUNTHER would be fired if he pulled that same stunt on Raw. He should actually thank Aldis, because he’s the one who insisted that GUNTHER’s tag team match (with Sami Zayn) against WWE Champion CM Punk and Cody Rhodes goes on as planned this weekend (July 18) at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Madison Square Garden. More importantly, GUNTHER should have waited to fully hear what Nick had to say before he attacked. He would have learned that the SNME tag match actually has high stakes; if GUNTHER and Zayn win, they will be added to the SummerSlam main event match of Punk vs. Rhodes on the weekend of August 1 &

WWE will crown an interim women’s champion instead of forcing Rhea Ripley to vacate her belt
Raw GM Adam Pearce is in control of SmackDown tonight, where there is “a ton to address.” One of those issues is the status of WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley, who has been out of action since she suffered an injury on WWE’s European tour in early June. SummerSlam takes place on the weekend of August 1 & 2, which is roughly two weeks from now. WWE needed to find a solution ASAP for what’s going with Ripley’s belt on that show, and they just announced it a short while ago. Instead of forcing Rhea to vacate her title, WWE will instead crown an interim champion with a ladder match at SummerSlam.
