Issues in MLW & CMLL alliance appear to be smoothed over
A can of worms was opened when MLW booked Tessa Blanchard from CMLL, and it seemed like trouble was brewing in that interpromotional strategic alliance. It was never clear publicly what the issue was. Now, it seems that whatever happened behind the scenes to ruffle feathers has been smoothed over. MLW and CMLL often exchange talent in this partnership. MLW benefits more when showcasing star luchadores, such as Mistico, to sell tickets in markets that are eager for lucha libre. The alliance has been smooth sailing for a few years. Things appeared to get rocky for a minute when MLW secured the services of Blanchard. CMLL released a statement saying Blanchard was only booked for one date. Those plans ended up being canceled, and Blanchard did not appear in MLW. The next odd step was luchadores being deleted off the MLW website. Curiosity brewed from fans wondering what the heck was going on. Just as quickly as that kerfuffle occurred, things were getting back in place to calm any issues.

MJF’s very MJF reaction to PWI 500 win, and his thoughts on the rest of the Top 10
Earlier today (Sept. 24), Pro Wrestling Illustrated released its big annual conversation-starting list of the 500 pro wrestlers it deems the best in the world – the PWI 500. In first place for the Aug. 2025-July 2026 year the magazine was considering for its 36th PWI 500 was AEW’s Maxwell Jacob Friedman, a man with the gift of gab and a never-ending desire to toot his own horn. PWI having a reaction podcast set with the new #1 immediately after this year’s top ten dropped? That’s just smart booking. Speaking, and often jousting with, PWI’s Lyric Swinton, Friedman congratulated the magazine for finally getting it right and putting him on top. Then Max and Lyric bantered about the nine names after his on the list. To kick this off Swinton mentions sticking to five words about or sending a message to each man, but they didn’t hold to that throughout: 2. Cody Rhodes: “Mentor. Beat him.” 3. MJF ends Cody Rhodes’ run atop the PWI 500
The 36th annual PWI 500 — Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s (mostly) kayfabe ranking of the 500 best wrestlers in the world — is here. Grabbing the top spot, beating out a former mentor-turned-rival in Cody Rhodes and a former inspiration-turned-nemesis in CM Punk, was AEW’s Maxwell Jacob Friedman. The three-time AEW World champ ended Rhodes two-year run as the top man in the PWI 500. It represents a huge leap for MJF, who was 30th in last year’s edition. They were followed by one of the hottest wrestlers in the world, Mistico, with New Japan & AEW’s Konosuke Takeshita rounding out the top five. CMLL 93rd Anniversary results: Mistico wins mask vs. hair, Andrade scores AEW’s lone win, more!
CMLL biggest show of the year culminated in mask versus hair. The 93rd Anniversary event (Sep. 18, 2026) featured talent from around the world coming from AEW, New Japan, and Stardom. Let’s jam through the results. The main event was a mask versus hair suicide final. The contest started with four tag teams made up of rivals. The winning team advanced to the lucha de apuestas. Mistico started the action hot with a flying crossbody off the stage. Barbaro Cavernario & Dragon Rojo Jr. were the first elimination when Templario pinned Dragon on a powerbomb. Zandokan Jr. & Star Jr. were the second elimination when Averno pinned Star on a double underhook facebuster. Ultimo Guerrero & Templario were the third elimination when Mistico pinned Templario on a springboard Mexican destroyer. The finale was set for Mistico and Averno in mask versus hair. Orange Cassidy & more international stars added to CMLL Grand Prix teams
CMLL is bringing in international stars from AEW, NJPW, ROH, RevPro, MLW, and MLP for the Grand Prix event. The Grand Prix is one of my favorite matches on the CMLL calendar, because the fans treat it like a big deal. They get rowdy in support of Mexico, as if it were a World Cup game. The concept is a torneo cibernetico with luchadores representing Mexico versus a team of wrestlers from around the world. Only one man remains standing as the ultimate winner. This year’s CMLL Grand Prix for the men takes place on August 7 from Arena Mexico. The full teams have been revealed.
