It’s a new week, let’s get right into it. Lead Rumor: WWE counter programming AEW There’s still a lot of talk regarding WWE and its decision to counter program AEW this past weekend with Worlds Collide going up against All Out. To that end, Fightful Select brings word that it was all about impacting ticket sales, and while AEW did well in that regard — something WWE was willing to admit internally — they “were still happy” with how Worlds Collide performed. Also of note is the fact that apparently the decision to air the show via tape delay (spoilers available here, if you want them), or at least to withhold a live broadcast of it, was made “by early August.” Sticking with counter programming talk, Bryan Alvarez indicates NXT is presumed to have “at least one big main roster name” on the show when AEW airs Grand Slam France on Oct 6. Wrestling world pays tribute to Pac
Earlier this evening, AEW announced Benjamin Satterley, widely known in pro wrestling as Pac or Adrian Neville, died at the age of 40. In the time since the news was announced, tributes have been pouring in from those within the industry who worked with him or simply knew him at all. It’s obvious the impact he had on all those he came into contact with, and how beloved he was among his contemporaries. Omg!! So sorry to here the news about Pac. Swerve Strickland sees the bright side in WWE/AEW battle in Chicago
WWE riled some folks up when they booked Chicago to the very same night as AEW this weekend. The only reason to put Worlds Collide up against All Out was to try to hurt the promotion in terms of sales. Of course, it didn’t actually work out for them, as AEW sold out and WWE didn’t even broadcast its event, at least not live. In the aftermath of a successful show, one where he retained the AEW world championship by defeating Jon Moxley in the main event, Will Ospreay was feeling particularly tribal. He cut a promo on WWE at the post-show media scrum, outright telling them “do not ever fucking step to us ever again.” It’s a not entirely unfair response, considering it’s always been WWE coming at AEW and not necessarily the other way around, at least not in such a deliberately targeted manner. Will Ospreay won’t waste time as world champion. Fresh off beating Jon Moxley to headline All Out, the new ace of AEW already called out his next challenger for Grand Slam France. Will Ospreay warns WWE not to ‘f***ing step to’ AEW ‘ever again’
He was always going to wear a World title belt for Tony Khan’s promotion because of how gifted he is in the ring, and how over he is with its fan base. But even if he was a little less talented or a over, I think Will Ospreay would have likely still become AEW’s top champion at some point. That’s because Ospreay will not only loudly, and passionately tell any and everyone that AEW is the best pro wrestling company on the planet, he’ll also add that WWE is not the best. Will has a bit of a chip on his shoulder about TKO’s pro wrestling operation after his own talks with them didn’t pan out — and then seemingly shared with the world in a somewhat passive aggressive fashion.
